Dahab general infomation

General Information

“The perfect place for relaxing in the sun on pristine beaches with a laid back atmosphere”

Resting between the golden granite mountains of the Sinai desert and the Egyptian Red Sea, Dahab is 90km north of the busier resort of Sharm El Sheikh.

Formerly a Bedouin fishing village, divers and backpackers first started arriving in Dahab in the early 80s. From the very beginning people came to explore Sinai’s unique coastal desert as well as to dive the pristine underwater dive sites. Despite a significant growth in tourism over the following years, Dahab still manages to retain its small-town charm and mellow atmosphere. Surrounded by the stunning beauty of the Red Sea, coupled with the beautiful mountains and desert, the area continues to draw nature lovers from around the world.

The Bedouins

Dahab is home to Bedouins with El Mezena being the largest tribe in the area. These nomadic people have managed to maintain their traditional ways and hospitable spirit despite the addition of tourists. Many of them now work within tourism which has resulted in Dahab’s unique and relaxed atmosphere. Several of the cafes, bars and restaurants offer relaxed Bedouin style seating with floor cushions or low sofas. These areas provide the perfect spot to relax and watch the world go by whilst you have a drink and smoke a shisha. Furthermore you can take advantage of their famous hospitality by booking a Bedouin Dinner. An unforgettable experience, you will eat traditional food in the peace of the desert whilst under a star-studded sky.

In Dahab you can experience one of the oldest and most interesting cultures in the world whilst have an amazing holiday in the sunshine. In addition to this, with its immaculate coral reefs and abundant marine life, Dahab is considered to be one of the Sinai’s most treasured diving destinations. Furthermore it is a world-renowned destination for many other water-sports such as windsurfing, kite-surfing, free-diving and snorkelling.
